Microsoft gets its Exchange cloud offering ready

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Microsoft Corp. has been getting ready its cloud-based Exchange Online offering for its larger enterprise customers. The online version of the new cloud exchange was initially focused on consumers and small businesses, but Microsoft has changed its focus in targeting the service toward larger enterprise customers.

“It used to be that Google Apps for Premier Edition was half the price of Microsoft. Now Microsoft Exchange Online Standard is $5 and Google is $4.17 per month per user,” says Ted Schadler, an analyst at Forrester Research. Microsoft also upped the ante by increasing the total number of seats it can support per organization from 10,000 to 30,000.

“Most customers will save money by moving from on-premises to online e-mail. The economies of scale and efficiency with which we can run the environment are hard to rival,” says Julia White, director of Exchange.

Lucid Lynx server set for free download

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

The new version — codenamed Lucid Lynx is set for free download. It will be available for a free download on Thursday, Canonical announced today.  Lucid Lynx extends the cloud-computing capability of Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud and includes major applications and packages added or updated since the previous long-term support (LTS) release.

Canonical CEO Jane Silber said “The range of industry, analyst and user support we are seeing for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on server has the makings of a breakout release for this technology. We can consolidate the significant technical advances we’ve made since the last LTS release onto a stable, secure and long-term supported platform that the industry is gathering around. This is exciting for us, for our partners and most of all for our users and I expect to see Ubuntu adoption accelerate as a core infrastructure layer for volume services and cloud computing in the world’s data centres.”

“Cloud Hosted” Service Option

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

The leading expense reporting and reimbursement automation software for medium-to-large enterprises, has added a Cloud Hosting to Aestiva Expense Report. This service option will let customers fully outsource IT hardware and support for their expense reporting system.  This will help larger enterprise cloud server customers to be able to report this easier. I think it’s a very nice system but very expense management software for cloud host reporting.
