Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Egnyte announced today it will launch an enterprise application this week for the new iPad 2.0. The Egnyte Enterprise for iPad app is the only solution of its kind with enterprise class data security, 24/7 access to files and complete file server user management capabilities, including complete control on file access rights, file access audit information and version tracking.

“Enterprise adoption of the iPad is exploding. Companies are looking to make all critical information and application assets available via the iPad anywhere, anytime,” said Matt Murphy, partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers and manager of its iFund. “Egnyte’s storage solution has hit the market at exactly the right time to address critical needs around security, management, and simple data access.”

As many of you may not know, Egnyte recently closed a $10 million round of venture capital Series B financing led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers (KPCB) with additional support from previous investors Floodgate and Polaris.

Egnyte’s unique hybrid cloud technology combines the accessibility and flexibility of cloud storage with increased performance offered by local storage. By automatically detecting and synchronizing changes to files on either local devices or in the cloud, Egnyte ensures that users have reliable and fast access to the files they need wherever they are.

“iPads aren’t just cool, they’re a great tool to increase productivity across the enterprise, particularly with such a large percentage of workers taking on the position of mobile warriors,” said Vineet Jain, CEO of Egnyte. “What’s been deterring so many businesses from developing iPad strategies in the workplace are the security and connectivity issues. The Egnyte Enterprise for iPad app is the only solution designed for all user classes — administrators, employees and business partners.”

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

SMEStorage cloud storage announced that its SMEStorage Android application is live in the Google Marketplace.  This new app is the first Android application that allows users to access and manage over ten storage clouds from their Android Phone in one cloud file view.

Files can be viewed and managed from Clouds such as Amazon S3, RackSpace CloudFiles, Box, Apple, Mobile Me, Microsoft SkyDrive, Microsoft Live Mesh, Gmail-as-a-cloud, Email-as-a-Cloud, FTP-as-a-Cloud, Google Docs, and WebDav enabled clouds.

Android has been added in the list of clients that users can use to get access to their files from the platform, said Ian Osborne, CEO at SMEStorage, adding that this application provides access to an “amazing array” of storage clouds right and provides sophisticated file sharing, file security, viewing and sync-to-device features.

“If users are at all like me they will have files in Google Docs, company files in something like Amazon S3, personal Files stored on FTP, and files stored as email attachments on GMail,” Osborne said.  This is officially the first multi cloud storage application that I have found.  Have any of you out there tested out this application?  I would love to know more about the application.  I have an iPhone and it’s not in the iTunes store as of right now.  We’ll see if it makes it there!

100,000 Android Applications Submitted

Friday, July 30th, 2010

As many of you know I am an iPhone nut.  I always buy the newest Apple products the day they come out (iPad, iPhone, Magic Mouse, MacBook Pro, etc).  That being said, I usually keep up on other product gossip to. It’s just fun for me to do.  I found it amazing that AndroLib says there aren’t 100,000 applications available in the Android store. There have, however, 100,000 apps been submitted to Android Market since its public debut, the site wagered this morning, up from approximately 5,000 in June 2009.

That’s pretty amazing for a phone that hasn’t been around for very long and has HUGE competitors out there.  Last week Google shared in its latest earnings call that more than 70,000 in total in the app store that had been approved and downloaded several million times.

What does this mean for the cloud hosting world?  Well, it’s also HUGE.  Cloud applications are becoming the new craze.  People download more apps then they go to the grocery store.  Hosting these applications in a cost saving environment is extreemly important to the thousands of developers out there.  I don’t care what platform you are working on. Cloud applications is a big part of the future of phones.  Are you on board or not?
