Eucalyptus Raises $20 Million for Its Hybrid Cloud

Eucalyptus Systems, a start-up offering open source tools to give companies the benefits of cloud computing on their own infrastructure, announced that it has raised $20 million in a second round of financing.

The company uses technology developed by the University of California, Santa Barbara. With Eucalyptus, companies can run applications in an internal environment using cloud technology while avoiding the normal concerns of security and being locked into another company’s platform. Apple Set To Move To The Cloud

Apple is reportedly set to move to cloud computing in order to expand its media content offerings.  Apple cloud computing technology is geared towards enabling its customers to stream media content while on the go, it has been reported.

Citing sources close to the heart of the technology giant, the website Boy Genius has revealed that the firm is looking to offer a cloud-based version of its popular iTunes application. The site expanded: “Any apps you buy, for instance, on your iPhone will immediately sync to your computer.  “Changes to your calendar, or notes of contacts, will also automatically update on your computer as well.”

Windows Phone 7 Cloud Hosting

Microsoft has announced that the people who worked on those devices will join the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating Kin concepts and technology into Microsoft’s upcoming mobile OS. Despite up-and-down reviews, Kin did have some redeeming qualities. Even though feature creep is a dangerous thing, here are four things that should make the leap from Kin to Windows Phone 7:

Kin Studio

The name would have to change, obviously, but automatic syncing of photos and video to a cloud server for easy PC access was one of Kin’s most praised features. Windows Phone 7 will reach a larger audience than Kin, which could pose a challenge in terms of server space, but if Microsoft can offer Windows Live SkyDrive and Windows Live Sync for PC users, surely it can make room for mobile.
