PCI Compliant Cloud Servers

Logicworks announced that it has received Level 1 Payment Card Industry (PCI) accreditation, the industry’s highest level of certification, and is now offering an integrated hardware, software and professional services solution that enables customers to achieve complete PCI compliance in less time and at lower cost than ever before.

“We have leveraged our reputation for security, as well as our history and expertise working with customers to assemble the strongest PCI solution available,” Kenneth Ziegler, Logicworks’ president and COO. “This offering has the potential to transform compliance initiatives for mid-market retail, healthcare and financial services customers, allowing them to jump ahead of evolving compliance standards.” The certification applies to Logicworks’ entire network, hardware and security infrastructure and will be renewed annually by Trustwave who performs thousands of PCI audits annually including half the Fortune 500. In addition, Logicworks has teamed with Alert Logic and SpiderLabs to perform independent network scanning and security penetration testing of its infrastructure on a quarterly basis.

HPC New Dell Cloud Servers

Dell announced the PowerEdge C6105 rack-mount server, which can accommodate up to 48 processor cores in a 2U box. The server can create large clusters to run scientific or math applications, and can also scale performance in densely packed cloud-computing environments, company officials said.

The server will run on Advanced Micro Devices’ Opteron 4000-series processors, and includes four two-socket motherboards, with each socket accommodating processors with up to six cores. The server is a complementary offering to Dell’s existing PowerEdge C6100 scale-out rack server, which runs on Intel’s Xeon processors.

Ubuntu Cloud Stack

Canonical has revealed that it’s working with open-source project Hadoop and NoSQL database providers to deepen the level of integration between these big-data technologies and the Linux distro’s next planned release: Maverick Meerkat, aka Ubuntu 10.10, due in October.

For those of you who aren’t aware of who or what Canonical does. Canonical has been helping Ubuntu’s push into the cloud, delivering an integrated stack of cloud platforms ready for download.  They are also a huge contributor managing dependencies, deployment, and provisioning of applications on Ubuntu clouds. Their  internal project codenamed Ensemble has played a significant role in the advancement of cloud servers running Ubuntu.  The Ubuntu cloud server will help companies save more money then ever before, plus… it’s cool!
