CDC Software Corporation invests in Marketbright

CDC Software Corporation  announced it completed its investment in Marketbright. Their goal is for companies offering cloud-based or point solutions which complement its enterprise solutions portfolio. The hybrid enterprise software provider CDC has had a focus on cloud deployment software and Strategic Cloud Investments.

“We are excited that CDC Software is now a strategic investor and look forward with this partnership,” said Dom Lindars, CEO of Marketbright. “Our products offer great synergies, and CDC Software’s extensive global technology and support infrastructure offer Marketbright significant economies of scale opportunities. Leveraging CDC Global Services’ R&D and services operations also offer us the opportunity to expand in emerging markets such as India and China. Already, we have identified a number of CDC Software customers that we believe could be ideal potential users of Marketbright solutions.”

IBM to buy Sterling Commerce for $1.4B

IBM will buy Sterling Commerce from AT&T for $1.4 billion in a cash deal that will help thier Big Blue’s networking and cloud-computing offerings. The biggest news about this is the fact that IBM plans to keep all of Dublin, Ohio-based Sterling Commerce’s 2,500 employees. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter.

Craig Hayman, general manager of IBM’s WebSphere Division, says, “This acquisition will give IBM new tools to help clients build dynamic business networks that connect partners, suppliers and clients and deliver a consistent customer experience across channels.” Sterling Commerce specializes in selling and hosting technology that helps companies manage customer orders and logistics, this primarily in the cloud. Craig later stated that the cloud environment will make it “compelling to large numbers of our customers.”

Vodacom Using Novel Cloud Services in Africa

According to a release, both companies will now aim at helping businesses across Africa to manage and monitor multi-tenant applications deployed from Vodafone-owned Vodacom’s cloud infrastructure. The announcement was made at Novell’s week-long BrainShare Europe knees-up in Amsterdam today.

This partnership will integrate much of Novell’s Intelligent Workload Management portfolio including: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Platespin Virtualization and Workload Management, and Identity and Security solutions into the network provider’s cloud hosting solutions.  This will all help with the cloud infrastructure in Africa.
