Backupify Raises $4.5 Million To Back Up Data In The Cloud

Backupify, a cloud computing service that backs up data on other cloud computing services, has raised $4.5 Million in Series A funding co-led by Avalon Ventures and General Catalyst, with Lowercase Capital and First Round Capital participating in the round.

Bringing your backup to the cloud is huge these days and Backupify is bringing this to the average customer.  Although, they say their service is in the cloud but according to their pricing… you aren’t getting the benefit of their cloud servers.  I would be interested to see if their plans include bandwidth in and out.  Cloud servers can store a lot of data and only use the necessary amount of data but they can use a fair amount of bandwidth.  We’ll see what this $4.5 million does for this start-up that was founded in late 2008.
